General Knowledge Of Seagate
(Available to all natives of Seagate)

There is a good deal of information that is peculiar to Seagate, and the "Exploring New Lands" Campaign that would normally be common knowledge.

Seagate natives will know about the large Mage Guild and its extensive library with information to delight most sages and magical researchers (nonmembers will have to pay for access 25 crowns per day, while members merely have to pay 1 crown per day). They will also know about Mage Island, an off-shore island where some of the magical courses of instruction are held and large magical labs exist. The natives will also know about some of the other major features of the city: like the Arena where warriors fight for pleasure and training; Prison Island with its sea patrol of dangerous creatures; and the Hippodrome, where races of Mega Raptors are displayed. Seagate inhabitants will also know about Bullion Tower, a magical government storehouse facility that magically reduces the size of anything stored inside. The building is ten stories tall and the top is the home of the Hippogriff Guard, an elite group of individuals that patrol the sky over the city. The interior of the government storehouse is secret and few outsiders know the inside layout or what exactly is stored inside. The walls are magically protected to prevent scrying. This storehouse is the most secure in the city and has never been robbed. During the tsunami attack on the city the storehouse was not breached.

A person cannot live in Seagate long without having to pay the 10% sales tax, with a discount for some fighters (they will have a badge to get the discount, who gets a badge is based on their guild). They will also know about some of the more powerful groups in the city: The Beggars guild, a collection of rogues; the Cleft Fellowship, a group of bards and teachers, the rivals Mage Guild and the Brothers of the Staff, the famous cavalry troop of mega raptors, the Assassins guild, known as the Blood Thorn, the Checked Pawn a thieves guild and the honor guard known as the Hippogriff Guards who use Hippogriffs and Griffions.

During the tsunami attack the Mage Guild was able to defend the city in the old city walls. The insane druid rebuilt the poor section while the Drow raised all those who died. The inner city was itself was not breached.

50 Years Later, what happend after the previous Campagin
Dreagon and Minos have opened up a respectable trade route with the kobolds in the former red dragon's lair. A road has been built between Seagate and the mountain mines. Minos has made the transition to steel dragon kin. He is in charge of the mine and has taken over the old dragon's lair. He has attracted a group of kobolds to his standard and has opened trade between them and the dwarves of Seagate. As such kobolds are no longer considered monsters in Lilis. They are not well accepted, but they are now considered to be "people" by many. Dreagon and Minos are building a kobld civilization and they have signed treaties of support with Lilis. Dreagon has made the transiton to dragon.

Adlanniel Greatstrider died under questionable circumstances; she was hunting in the valley of dinosaurs and her hunting party ran across a pride of Tyrannosaurs Rex. Adlanniel leapt into battle to defend her hunting party when she was swallowed whole. The hunting party went to her rescue, but there was some confusion, none of the witnesses remembered a fireball being launched, yet burn signs at the scene showed that one had been launched; by the tracks it seems that Adlanneil was the target. She must have been wounded when swallowed, which explains why she didn't cut her way out. The Tyrannosaurs Rex was later tracked down and killed. A necropsy was conducted and her remains and her swords were recovered. Her sister was heartbroken and ordered the entire hunting party to be put on trial (she almost killed them herself, but was restrained). The evidence was clear, the trial was brief and they were all convicted, however they never said why Adlanneil was killed. It was clear that someone had paid them for it, but they were more afraid of them than the elves.

Trillinia Greatstrider took over rulership of Gongagon. The wound of the loss of her sister is still fresh and painful, and Gongaga would only remind her of her sister's death. She is still considered to be a great elven leader and is consulted by many elves; however she will only answer to true elves and you have to find her first. As a ranger in the woods that is no easy task. She regularly attends the arena, at least once a month. She has sponsored a few champions (all elves), but is currently neutral. Although she rarely goes into Seagate nidalee does enter Gongaga, but she is uncomfortable there. Trill extended her lifespan magically and she has had two broods of children. They were all hand raised by the elves and fostered off to other rangers and druids for their companionship.

The raptor trade that Adlanniel started to replace the horses that were once used in Seagate and by Lilis continues. Gongagon is supplying support troops to the elves of the Effen Forest, including archers and raptor mounted cavalry.

Ambrosa Dawnfire served as an ambassador for 4 years and then returned to her people and took up a position as advisor to her father. His death followed 16 years later (due to natural causes). Ambrosa is now in charge of the Kingdom where she rules to this date (Trillina Greatstrider is an "advisor on the affairs of nature.").

Cage had an illustrious career as a professional gladiator and retired after 14 years. He bought and trained his own stable of gladiators and after 23 years as a manager he retired to his estates west of Seagate. At his death, 12 years ago, he liberated his slaves. One of his liberated slaves; Kujo is currently an arena favorite.

Denna become a pirate of renown, she was lost at sea when her ship "Master of the Waves" was sunk in a battle against a fleet sent out by the Island Kingdoms. Cage had tried to start a romance with her, but she was never around long enough for it to come to fruitarian. News has come up that she is being held for ransom in the Pirate Kingdoms, but the price hasn't been set.

Indiria and Revan continued their unconventional relationship (a dwarf married to a human) and entered the Royal Scouts. They were both killed in a surprise Orc raid 6 years later.

Cyrus was promoted and eventually reached the rank of Colonel. He commanded the Hippogriff Guard in the final battle of the Torg wall. He joined his victorious troops in hounding the retreating Orcs and was instrumental in the setbacks of the Cenastic Alliance. The Orcs keep fighting, but they have lost half of their lands to the conquering Lilis troops. The war with Lilis and the newly named Empire of Man has wound down, with the Orcs on the losing end. Cyrus retired after 25 years of service and became mayor of Minotaur Hill, the town that rose on his lands near around the former Minotaur stockade. He died 8 years ago, a rich, happy and well loved man. He married the half-elf Golden Bow, but the marriage only lasted 10 years. She left him when she found out he was still holding a candle in his heart for LeBlanc. Cyrus and Golden Bow had 2 sons and a daughter. His daughter Audrey has gone to Seagate and is active in politics as a councilor.

The Abbey of Cornwell has evolved into a resort, famous for its wines and mineral baths. It is also an institute of higher learning training new wizards and sorcerers for the Brother's of the Staff. Even a few dragons have come there for training. The doors are open to all who are friends and allies of Lilis.

Val rose in the ranks of her guild and eventually became guildmaster for the Brother's of the Staff, a post that she holds to this date. Her tenure has been known for a softening of relations between the Mage's Guild and the Brother's of the Staff, they are still separate and jealous guilds, but they are starting to work together, somewhat. They refuse to allow the sharing of spell books; a sore issue with Von.

The Whorehouse of Cornwall has prospered under good leadership and maintains good relations with the fey to this day. They had a tough period facing religious persecution by the Clerics of Pelor for their free sexual ways, but they weathered that and continue in business to this day (making their backers a good sum). Vidma is the "madam" of the house and a well known political figure in local politics, it is rumored that she has taken a satyr lover. Due to her contacts she is a major player when it comes to dealing with the fey.

The 'Insane Druid" has not been seen in 50 years, but he is still around because he always sends a singing message to King Jonas on his birthday, where he calls him "kingy."

Big Bertha, the blue dragon, has taken up a new cause; promoting the welfare of animals and animal rights. The Inman Kingdoms still "enslave" horses, but Seagate and Lilis has "liberated" them. As a result horses have been replaced by raptors. Horses were released to the wild and roam in large herds. Ironically many of them are hunted for their meat to feed the Raptors of Lilis. The Army is experimenting with a Raptor Legion, and the Cavalry have had to replace their horses with raptors.

The elves are hard pressed with the opening of a gate from the Abyss to lands of Corellon Larethian (The Olympian Glades of Aborea, Arvandor; the top level). The gate was eventually, but at great cost closed. Many elves had to fight, and die, against the demons to close the gate. The elves were sorely pressed, so pressed that they accepted the help of the Drow. LeBlanc, a member of Avalanche, was approached and sent fighters, an act that personally cost her house in the eternal war for dominance for the Underdark. Because of this elven-drow relations are at the best they have ever been; meaning they will hesitate before killing each other on sight and that LeBlanc is still carried on the roles of Seagate as a Baroness. She occasionally sends diplomatic missions to Gongaga and Seagate dealing with minor manners, these missions seem mainly to let them know that she is still around and she owes her. Currently the elves are fighting incursions by Gruumsh's troops. Never one to pass up a chance to hurt his rival, he has no plans to take over Arvandor, merely to make life uncomfortable for the elves there and take advantage of their current weakness.

The devils, given a break in the blood war, are more active then ever. It is unknown what the demons are doing. The elves are angry that the gate had been opened, but haven't found out who was responsible for it. It has caused an on going drain on troops from both Gongaga and the Effen Forest.

The Golaith was last seen in the Underdark as bodyguard to LeBlanc. Her current whereabouts are unknown.

LeBlanc took over a major city in the Underdark and held on to it for 6 years. Before an alliance of the major families finally toppled her. She is working her way back to the top and is now in control of the 3rd most powerful house. She has survived at least 6 assassination attempts. She sold the Whore House, raising capital for one of her take over attempts. However, her temple to Loth still stands.

After LeBlanc left the surface world she did not abandon her worshipers on the surface. Her temple survives, even if services held there are rare. A small contingent of drow live in the city, but they seem to be more interested in the politics of the underworld than preaching. The temple seems to be protected by a curse. A construction crew, sponsored by an unknown temple, came in to demolish the temple and were met by a swarm of spiders. The contractor who took on the job was mysteriously poisoned, as was his wife. LeBlanc herself has made several visits to Seagate and followed all the proper protocols. She has attended the arena, she once even lead a service in her temple. Lately, though she seems to be busy with other projects. The elven contingent has no problem with this and seem to be happier the less they see of her.

Jonas Seabite, the king of Lilis, had 3 children; two boys and a girl. His oldest was male, Prince Eastwood. His daughter, Joan became an ambassador to the Inman Kingdoms, and Bert (his youngest) has entered the clergy of Pelor. Jonas's wife died in childbirth and he married Princess Margate 6 years later. He is still king, but has turned most of his duties over to his son, Eastwood.

Sir Alan waged several successful campaigns against the Orcs, before he was assassinated 23 years ago.

The gnome Harakentoraisheantillap is rich, after finally cracking the problem to making gun barrels and most troops use bang powder operated guns. He has retired to his workshop, but still keeps "his hand in" by improving the basic design of the gun. A rifle, pistol, and 4 sizes of cannon have entered service and all, but the cannon are sold on the open market. However, taking a proficiency in firearms requires an exotic weapon proficiency for each weapon; pistol, rifle or cannon.

The Blade of Dolphin Street, stopped his killing for 15 years, but then town guard says that he seems to be active again. The thief Six Fingers (know for leaving a six fingered glove at the scene of his crimes) is still active. Rumors say that his protégé may have taken his place.

Phred Phantas, the master illusionist, has retired from the guild, but he still puts on an show on New Years Day and at the start of the Days of Light week. He is a very old human, but still in possession of his faculties.

Empire Of Reason; 100 Years Later

This game takes place 50 years after the Exploring New Lands Campaign. Most of the action should take place on Sorrid only; where the planes are split into the normal wheel as described in the Manual of Planes and DMG.

Players will be citizens or allies to the Empire of Reason; the empire that was started by Jonas Seabite during the last game. Your goal is to help unify the continent of Sorrid into the Empire of Reason. The Inman Kingdoms have already joined, it was difficult to do this since they rarely agreed on anything and were unable to form a nation on their own.

The Cenastic Alliance and the nation of Gelisic are still Orcish controlled. The supply line that the Orcs had, through the Mind Flayers, to another world appears to have been cut off. No new ships have been seen and the Mindflayers of Thoon have not been heard from in 30 years.

Trill Greatstrider is still in charge of Gongaga, a subject of Lilis, ruler of her city and a loyal subject of the Empire. She is on her 4th descendant of Needily, as her companion. She has crossbreed her so that her descendants breed true as cold creatures with an ability to turn on or off their frost aura.

Ambrosa Dawnfire (Steve's female elven Wizard) has died recently, a victim of a political assassination. Cyrus is remembered as a great leader and war hero, a figure of history.

The Savants, Dreagon and Minos (Daniel's characters), both live and work in Dragon City and both have made the transition to become Silver Dragons. They rule the kobold mining community and have each married and started to raise a Silver Dragon family.

Humans still rule Seagate and the resulting Empire of Reason. Queen Ann Seabite is the current monarch. Her father Jonas Seabite is very old and has magically extended his lifespan. He abdicated the throne 10 years ago in favor of his oldest daughter. He still acts as an advisor to Ann though and the elves still try to work though him.

There was an argument between a druid and the city. The druid flooded the city killing over 100 people. As a condition on letting the city continue it was made illegal to use horses. Therefore dinosaurs are not used by the cavalry and other draft animals like oxen are used rather than horses in Seagate.

Fifty years later there was another argument between King Seabite and a druid, the druid polymorphed him into a newt and tried to poison him. After this second act druids are not welcome in town. It is not illegal to be a druid, but anyone with the shapechange ability must be registered. It is illegal to teach the spells poison and baleful polymorph. Of course this doesn't mean they aren't possible to learn.

The dragon Blue Bertha (Silverleaf) is still alive and visits queen Ann regularly (once every few months, on no predictable schedule) and it is rumored that he advisors her.

The rest of the party retired to the area around what became the city of Kermack (based around the whore house). A large city has built up in this area and the whore house that capitalizes on the work of fey is still in business. The Abbey of Cornwall was destroyed by a hurricane and wasn't rebuilt. Instead the city of Kermack was expanded and built over the ruins.

LeBlanc controls the second most powerful house in her Drow city. She is leader of her family and a powerful person. It has been said that she does not hold the top position only because she is tired of all the other houses trying to take the top position away from her. As leader of the second most powerful house she has fewer problems from drow and can concern herself with her plans for the surface.

Technology has advanced as well; the musket has been replaced by the flintlock which is an improved muzzle loading gun. Cannon are on the castle walls and carried by most ships. Using a firearm or cannon still requires the expenditure of an exotic weapon feat though. Most of the troops have been trained in warfare with rifles and cannon, and most officers carry pistols; however firearms are too expensive for the common man. In Pathfinder the rules and costs for early firearms apply. The current technology is slightly better than early weapons, but effectively in the game there is little difference. Paper cartridges exist; they have a bullet and black powder inside a paper cartridge, the cartridge is ripped open and the contents are poured into the weapon. A ramrod is used to seat the round properly and then the weapon can be fired. A slow match is not required, instead a spark from the flintlock is sufficient to ignite the gun powder and set off the weapon. Standard weapons, crossbows and the bow and arrow are the weapons used by most people. The prices of firearms are the same as those listed in the books and on the web site. Revolvers and bolt action loading weapons are not available.

Seagate has changed. There is now an arch at each entry to the walled part of the city. The arch detects if a person has memorized the spells baleful polymorph, or poison and they are set to sound an alarm whenever someone with those spells enters the city. The arches also detect anyone who has shapechanging ability. Druids are not outlawed, but they are not encouraged in the city. Any shapechanger must wear a special bracelet that identifies them and prevents them from shapechanging. Powerful shapechangers and mages usually consider themselves above the law and fly over walls anyway. If any but the dragon Blue Bertha tries to fly over the wall they are attacked by the city guards. The walls have an automatic protection that prevents destruction of the city through a storm or tsunami.

In the poorer quarter of town life has improved. There are fruit bearing treants on most blocks with magical wells at their base. While there is not enough fruit to live off of, there is enough to provide variety to the diet and important nutrients (scurvy is unknown).

The temple to Loth is seldom visited, but it is still standing and staffed. The drow have an embassy and are great customers for firearms. They trade them with others on the Rokugani continent (the rival oriental clans). Drow are rare in the city, but accepted and protected by law. LeBlanc herself does not come to Seagate, she has other concerns, but her family still runs the temple.

The standard races all exist in Lilis. Monster races are allowed by player characters, but they are rare and are still treated as monsters. The only exception are kobolds from the Dragon Mines. Oriental characters are allowed, but they probably won't be going home any time during the campaign. The new races in Pathfinder are not present in any large number. If a player decides to pick one they will usually be a member of a rare breed. There is a homeland for all the acceptable playable races.

Currently, there is a cold war between the elves and the drow. The drow aren't pushing the issue because they are involved in something that takes up their time.

The major change in the campaign world is the store Zo'al's. Like a Wal Mart for D&D it carries a wide range of material. Treaties with Zo'al's and other deals worked out provide magic items at 90% of cost, scrolls are an exception (including sales tax). The cost to get a person to cast a spell remains the same as that in the book. Zo'al's has spread into the normal market meaning that virtually all equipment is obtainable at 90% of book cost. This only holds true for major cities though. For smaller communities and other locations the price is the same as listed in the books plus 10% for sales taxes.

Empire of Reason for new Characters

Players will be citizens or allies to the Empire of Reason; the empire that was started by Jonas Seabite during the last game. Your goal is to help unify the continent of Sorrid into the Empire of Reason. The Inman Kingdoms have already joined, it was difficult to do this since they rarely agreed on anything and were unable to form a nation on their own. The Empire of Reason is run by the humans since they are the most populist race.

400 years ago the Orcs lead a war against the elves and humans. The humans called it the Inhuman Wars and they ended up on the losing end. The elves were able to hold on to their country of Econotel, but the nation of Lilis lost a lot of ground.

300 years ago the first party was organized and they pushed back the frontiers of the Orcish Empire; the Cenastlaic Alliance and the nation of Gelisic. The party known as Avalanche started small, as most groups do, and became mighty heroes, defeating an entire Orc lead army by themselves. They also uncovered a link between the Orcs and a race of stronger Orcs called Scro. This link lead off-world and was run by the mind flayers of Thoon (a prophet unknown here). The party destroyed an actual spaceship and discovered some new technology; a ballpoint pen and a printing press. Books are now printed and ink can be purchased in vials or ballpoint pens (wood with metal tips). At the height of the war the Orcs opened a gate to the Abyss and called forth some demons. The party fought the demons and rather than try to close they gate they opened a new one in front of it leading to Corellon Larethian's home plane of Arborea; the leader of the elven pantheon. Now the elves had to face a demonic invasion on their home turf. It took another 70 years of fighting before the elves were able to beat back the demons. During that time the elves of the prime material plane were hard pressed and sending troops to fight the demons. So hard pressed that they reluctantly had to accept support from the drow. This temporarily suppressed the war between the elves and the drow. The threat of demons was more important. With the winning of the war against the demons things are starting to return to normal and the elves and drow are involved in a cold war. By one of the tenants of the elvish religion killing drow is holy work.

Thanks to the work of the earlier party kobolds and drow are now accepted members of society. At least that is the public face put on the issue. The elves and drow are in a cold war and kobolds are still seen as monsters, especially be their rivals the dwarves.

During this war the devils had less competition in their eternal war against the demons. The devils didn't try to destroy the demons instead they forged a new alliance with a totally unknown evil pantheon. The second party was sent to explore a new continent, they encountered the devils and fought against attacks lead by them. They encountered a peaceful civilization of goblins and hobgoblins and drow. Later they discovered a rift to Ravenloft, the demi-plane of evil. After escaping Ravenloft they continued their exploration and discovered a kingdom of Hengeyokai; animal-human crossbreeds from an oriental culture. The Hengeyokai lived along the Ivory Coast and were lead by the Varna, a race of ape-men, who followed a religion similar to that of ancient India. They contacted the Thri-Kreen ambassador, and learned the new (to them) language of the Rokugan Empire. The Rokugan Empire is a human empire with very few other races and low magic from an oriental setting. They explored the oriental empire a little and became involved in the fight for succession of the emperor. Eventually they contacted the Shadowlands, an empire of evil. Their exiled god was returning and was captured by the party. The party discovered the planes were different over here and in this part of the planet the oriental planes held sway.

The party (actually Mike) brought the worship of Olidammara to the Rokugani Empire and when they captured Fu Leng they gave him to Olidammara. What he did with the power of another (evil) god is unknown.

There was an argument between a druid and the city. The druid flooded the city killing over 100 people. As a condition on letting the city continue it was made illegal to use horses. Therefore dinosaurs are now used by the cavalry and other draft animals like oxen are used rather than horses in Seagate.

Fifty years later there was another argument between King Seabite and a druid, the druid polymorphed him into a newt and tried to poison him. After this second act druids are not welcome in town. If any but the dragon Blue Bertha tries to fly over the wall they are attacked by the city guards. The walls have an automatic protection that prevents destruction of the city through a storm or tsunami.

Thanks to the work of the druid fruit bearing treants, intelligent trees, live in the poorer quarters of the city with wells at their roots. While not enough to feed the city they do provide some important and free nutrition.

A blue dragon known as Big Bertha is a regular visitor to the royal palace, it is rumored that he advises Queen Ann Seabite. He ignores the restriction; that flying over the wall of Seagate is illegal. He doesn't stick to a regular schedule and visits only once every couple of months.

At the end of the second game the human ruler of Seagate, capital of Lilis, founded the Empire of Reason. This game will be based on the unification of the continent of Sorrid into the Empire of Reason. The Empire is biased against the monster races of bugbears, goblins, hobgoblins, and orcs. It will be human controlled since they are the race with the most people.

Primitive, muzzle loading, firearms at the flintlock stage and cannon can be found in the Empire of Reason and some other groups. Learning to use a firearm takes an exotic weapon proficiency feat. Firearms are common among the troops, and most officers have pistols, but usually they are too expensive for the average person. The prices are as those listed in the books (and on the web site). Bolt action weapons and revolvers are not available. There are paper cartridges, the cap is ripped off (usually with the teeth) and the measure of powder is poured into the weapon, the bullet is added and a ram rod is used to compact the bullet and powder. Sparks from a flint are used to ignite the powder and fire the weapon.

The standard races all exist in Lilis. Monster races are allowed by player characters, but they are rare and are still treated as monsters. The only exception are kobolds from the Dragon City. Oriental characters are allowed, but they probably won't be going home any time during the campaign. The new races in Pathfinder are not present in any large number.
